Jon Young

Jon Young
Group Chief Executive Officer

Jon holds a Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical and a Bachelor of Science, Mathematics from the University of Sydney.

After University, Jon joined Mobil Oil as a Process Engineer at its Adelaide refinery and spent seventeen years with Mobil in a wide range of management roles in Australia, the USA and Asia. Jon's last role with Mobil was as Chief Executive Officer of Indo Mobil, New Delhi, India.

In 2000 Jon joined Santos, Australia's second largest oil and gas company and as Executive Vice President Operations was responsible for its onshore Australian assets. Jon was the Santos business leader responsible for the development and execution of Santos' coal seam gas strategy which, through an acquisition and appraisal programme, enabled Santos to develop the industry leading Gladstone LNG project.

Jon joined The Todd Corporation in January 2011 as Group CEO. Jon holds dual New Zealand and Australian citizenship and is married with four children. His interests include family activities, motorcycle touring, travel and the arts.


Nick Olson
Group Chief Financial Officer

Nick holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Auckland and is a Chartered Accountant.

During the last 15 years Nick has served in senior roles at Telecom New Zealand, where he was Group CFO between 2010 and 2013 and at Fletcher Building, where he was Group CFO until late 2014 and most recently as Group CFO of The Todd Corporation. He was 2012 CFO of the Year (New Zealand).

Nick has a background in debt capital markets and leveraged finance and worked for both Credit Suisse First Boston and JP Morgan Chase in Hong Kong from 1998 to 2001. In his corporate career Nick has been instrumental in some of the largest mergers and acquisitions transactions and debt raisings in the New Zealand market, including the demerger of Chorus from Telecom Corporation of New Zealand and the sale of the New Zealand Yellow Pages business. In addition he has led the end-to-end transformation and re-organisation of a number of substantial finance functions and in 2015 was the interim General Manager of a steel roll forming business based in Australia.

Nick is married with two sons, has a passion for motorcycles, and enjoys spending time with his family in Northland. 


Joanna Breare
Vice President New Zealand Upstream Energy, CEO Todd Energy New Zealand, Deputy CEO Todd Offshore

Dr Joanna Breare has 28 years' experience in the oil and gas industry with involvement in exploration, development, project management and reservoir geology. She has held positions in the UK and Vietnam with BP and was a consultant to Shell, STOS and Fletcher Challenge Energy before joining STOS in 2002. During her twelve years at STOS, Joanna held the positions of Deputy Development Manager, Joint Venture Business Manager and Deputy General Manager, with her last role being Exploration and Development Manager for STOS and Shell New Zealand.

In August 2014 Joanna joined The Todd Corporation as Vice President NZ Upstream Energy, CEO Todd Energy NZ and Deputy CEO Todd Offshore.

Joanna is married to a New Zealander and has two children. Her interests include competitive swimming at a national level plus running and skiing at a recreational level.


Babu Bahirathan
Vice President Downstream Energy, CEO Nova Energy

Babu graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical and Electronics with first class honours. He has since completed study towards a Masters in Finance from Massey University.

After graduating, Babu joined Transpower NZ as Assistant Development Engineer.  He went on to spend nine years there in a wide range of roles including planning, development, design, operations and new investments. Babu was Technical Manager on various development projects and his last role with Transpower was as Team Leader in the Pricing Group, responsible for designing and implementing pricing methodology for transmission cost recovery.

In 1999 Babu joined Todd Energy as a Business Analyst just as Todd entered the retail electricity market. He has played a major role in developing and managing Todd’s electricity business from its infancy.  Babu held the position of Group Manager Electricity from 2006 until 2011 when he moved into his current role. He is responsible for The Todd Corporation’s Wholesale and Retail Gas, Electricity and LPG businesses.

Babu is a Sri Lankan born Kiwi and is married with three children. His interests include sport and travel.


Evan Davies
Managing Director Todd Property

Evan holds a Bachelor of Town Planning from the University of Auckland, a Master of Science in Tourism Management from the University of Surrey and a Master of Philosophy in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Birmingham.

On returning to New Zealand he acted as a planning consultant to a number of major New Zealand developers. In 1986 Evan joined Rainbow Corporation and subsidiaries and was responsible for significant commercial developments in New Zealand and Australia. In 1991 he joined Brierley Investments as General Manager of Brierley Properties. After disposal of Brierley’s property portfolio Evan led the licensing and development processes for the Sky City project in Auckland and joined Sky City on its public listing in 1996.

During Evan’s 11 years as Managing Director of Sky City the company grew from a single site to having business operations throughout New Zealand, South Australia and the Northern Territory, with an enterprise value in excess of $3 billion and more than 6,000 staff. Evan was named the Deloitte/New Zealand Management Magazine Chief Executive of the Year in 2001.

Evan joined Todd Property as Managing Director in 2008.

Evan is a trustee of several substantial charitable organisations, a director of several public sector enterprises and has interests in sailing and farming.


Chris Hall
Group General Counsel & Vice President Growth Businesses, Executive Chairman Integria Healthcare

Chris has a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Hons) from the University of Otago, a Master of Laws from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver and a post graduate diploma in Strategic Management from Macquarie University, Sydney. 

From 1988 to 2001 Chris worked in a commercial law firm, specialising in dispute resolution, energy, competition, intellectual property and the Treaty of Waitangi.

In 2002, Chris joined Todd Energy as its first General Counsel and was responsible for management of legal and commercial matters across its integrated energy businesses during a period of very substantial growth.  He was also responsible for commercial and legal aspects of acquisition and development, compliance, governance and regulatory issues.

In 2011, Chris was appointed Group General Counsel and Vice President Growth Businesses, The Todd Corporation. In relation to the latter he has responsibility for the Corporation’s wholly owned subsidiary Integria Healthcare and its investment in PartsTrader US. Prior to its recent divestment, he was Executive Chairman of Todd Winegrowers.

From 2005 to 2011 Chris was a member of the Executive Committee of the Petroleum Exploration and Production Association of New Zealand, including two years as Chairman. He is a Director of a number of Todd companies and of Shell Todd Oil Services, New Zealand's largest oil and gas field operator. He is a member of the New Zealand Law Society, Energy and Law Association and Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. Chris holds dual New Zealand and British citizenship and is married with two sons.


Paul Moore
Executive Vice President International Energy, CEO Todd Energy International, CEO South Louisiana Methanol

Paul has a Masters in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering (2:1 honours) and a Diploma of Engineering (Southampton University, UK).

Paul has held a number of senior executive positions in the international oil and gas sector during the last 30 years. Prior to joining Todd, he was Managing Director of ASX Junior Otto Energy, Executive Vice President Development with Woodside and Vice President Development Projects and Technical Services with Santos. Paul was employed by Fletcher Challenge for 11 years during which time he was a Director of Maui Development in New Zealand for five years and also held various upstream management roles in New Zealand and Brunei, Borneo. He began his oil and gas career with Shell International where he was employed as a Petroleum Engineer in the North Sea, North Africa, and New Zealand.

Paul joined The Todd Corporation in 2011 as Executive Vice President Upstream Energy and Resources. In August 2014, he was appointed to the positions of Executive Vice President International Energy, CEO Todd Energy International and CEO South Louisiana Methanol.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Chartered Engineer and has been a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers for over 30 years.


Michael Wolley
Vice President Minerals

Michael holds a first class honours degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Auckland and a Masters of Management from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Michael had a 15 year career with Mobil Oil Australia in a range of roles including engineering, operations, strategic planning and business development in Australia and New Zealand. In 1995 he left Mobil to pursue opportunities in Asia Pacific and worked in a number of senior executive roles in the manufacturing and industrial sectors including a period as President of BlueScope Steel China.

In 2007 Michael returned to the resources sector as Chief Operating Officer of Lynas Corporation, an ASX 100 business, and subsequently into the gold sector where he is a Director of Red Mountain Mining, an ASX listed gold development business.

Michael was appointed Vice President Corporate Development of The Todd Corporation in 2011. In February 2013 he was appointed to the role of Vice President Minerals, based in Sydney. Michael is a Director of Wolf Resources, an ASX listed resources business and is a Director of ASX listed Flinders Mines. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Directors and the Institute of Directors in New Zealand.

Michael holds dual Australian and New Zealand citizenship. His interests include the performing arts, rugby, fishing and diving.
